Adding Missing Alt Text to Your Images

Alt text is a type of text in your website code that describes an image on your website. Adding alt text to your images gives search engines valuable information about the images. Alt text is also important for accessibility. Learn more about alt text

The Wix SEO Checklist checks your website’s images for alt text and lets you know if it’s missing. If you see an alt text error in your SEO checklist, try the troubleshooting steps in this article to fix it.

In this article you will read how to:

Check the alt text of your images, vector art and shapes

The main reason you might see an error is that some of the images, vector art, or basic shapes on your page don’t have alt text. Carefully review the page your SEO checklist identified and look for images that are missing alt text.

Tips:

  • It's a good idea to consider the context of what a user sees in the image and use that to write your alt text. For example, "Freshly baked bread on a kitchen table."

  • Avoid using the name of your file for your alt text (for example 'bread.jpg').
