Setting up Photo Albums

Wix Photo Albums: Designing Your Photo Album

After uploading photos to your photo album, it's time to design it to make sure it looks the way you want it to. Wix Photo Albums offers you hundreds of design options, from customizing the layout, to changing the colors and fonts, and using custom animations. You can access these options and more in the Photo Album Editor.

Note:

Additional changes outside of the customization options outlined in this article are not supported. It's not possible to add additional buttons, elements or menus to Photo Album pages.

Show me how to access the Photo Album Editor

  1. Go to Photo Albums in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click the More Actions icon next to the relevant album.

  3. Click Customize.

Changing your album layout

Your album layout determines the way your photos are arranged. We have 12 layouts for you to choose from, each with their own options.

For example, if you choose the Masonry layout, you can customize the spacing between the images, where as if you choose the Thumbnail layout, you can change the size of the thumbnails.

To change your album layout:

  1. Go to Photo Albums in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click Edit next to the relevant album.

  3. Click the Design tab.

  4. Click Layouts.

  5. Click the Galleries tab.

  6. Select a layout.

  7. Customize the layout using the options available.
    Note: You can learn more about the available options in the Layout glossary.

Customizing your album cover

Choose a photo you want to highlight for your album's cover. The cover photo is the first photo visitors see when they're looking at the album gallery on your site.

To customize your album cover:

  1. Go to Photo Albums in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click Edit next to the relevant album.

  3. Choose what you want to do:

Change the cover photo

  1. Hover over the album cover on the left and click Change Photo to select a different cover.

  2. Select a photo from your computer to use as the cover.

Change the text that appears on the cover

  1. Click the Text tab on the left.

  2. Edit the following:Album title: Edit the title that appears on the front of the album.
    Button text: Edit the text visitors click to view the rest of the photos.
    More info: Enable or disable the More info toggle. If enabled, edit the text (by default, it's the date that you entered when creating the album).
    Business info: Enable or disable the Business info toggle. If enabled, edit your business name or logo.

Change the design of the cover

  1. Click the Design tab on the left.

  2. Choose what you want to design:Layouts: Hover over the available cover layouts and select the one you want to use.
    Colors: Select a new color for the text and the overlay which appears when someone hovers over the gallery with their mouse.

Hide the album cover

  1. Hover over the More Actions icon .

  2. Click Hide Album Cover.

Changing your album colors

Choose the colors you want to use for your album and customize the design of the borders and shadow.

To change your album colors:

  1. Go to Photo Albums in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click Edit next to the relevant album.

  3. Click Gallery.

  4. Click the Design tab.

  5. Click Colors.

  6. Customize the colors and design of the following:

Background & Icons

Customize the colors used on the gallery background, this includes the text and social icons as well as the background itself.

  • Page text & icons color: Select a color for the page text and social icons.

  • Background color: Select the background color.

Photo Info & Overlay

Customize the colors used for the info and icons that appear on the photos themselves. You can also change the overlay that appears when people hover over a photo with their mouse.

  • Text & icons color on photo: Select a color for the text and icons that appear on the photos.

  • Mouse hover color: Select the color of the overlay that appears when someone hovers over the photo with their mouse.

  • Overlay opacity: Change the opacity of the overlay, to remove the overlay altogether, change the opacity to 0.

Border

Customize the borders that appear around the photos. You can choose a specific color, make them thicker or thinner or even round the corners.

  • Photo border color: Select the border color.

  • Photo border width (px): Change the thickness of the border.

  • Photo corner radius: Make the corners more round or more square.

Shadow

Give your photos a 3D effect by adding a shadow around them. Click the toggle to enable the shadow and customize it to your liking.

  • Shadow color: Select a color for the shadow.

  • Shadow blur: Change the depth of the shadow by giving it more or less blur.

  • Shadow direction: Choose which direction the shadow should fall. Lower numbers make the shadow fall to the left, whereas higher numbers make it fall to the right.

  • Shadow size: Increase or decrease the size of the shadow.

Changing the album font

The font set affects all of the text in your album. It's made up of a title font (album, gallery and photo titles) and a secondary font (all other titles). Choose from one of the preset font sets, or create your own.

Note:

The font color settings for the password login page are also derived from the Page Text and Icons Color setting in the Galleries tab. Pay attention to this - if you set the text to white on a password protected gallery, the text will be invisible.

To change your album font:

  1. Go to Photo Albums in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click Edit next to the relevant album.

  3. Click the Design tab.

  4. Click Fonts.

  5. Select an existing font set or click + New Font Set to add your own.

Adding animation effects

Bring your gallery to life by adding animation effects, Choose what happens when someone scrolls through your album or hovers over one of the photos.

To add animation effects:

  1. Go to Photo Albums in your site's dashboard.

  2. Click Edit next to the relevant album.

  3. Click the Design tab.

  4. Click Animations.

  5. Customize the animation effects for the following scenarios:Scrolling effect: Choose an effect for when visitors scroll down the gallery in your album. For example, you can make your photos zoom out while scrolling.
    Hover effect:  Choose an effect that appears when visitors hover over your photos. For example, you can make your photos' colors turn grayscale.
    Overlay animation: Choose an overlay animation that also appears when visitors hover over your photos. For example, you can make your photos slide right.

Tip:

Click Preview Hover Mode to see what your effects look like.

Can I change the focal point of my Photo Album cover?

Currently, it is not possible to change the focal point of a Photo Album cover. The cover is centered and cropped by default to optimally fit the screen size. If this is a feature you would like to see in the future, please click Vote for this feature in this article and we'll make sure to keep you updated.

Can I customize the expand mode?
